Thank you for visiting Hawaiian Elementary School's Fifth Grade Website.
During the 2011-2012 school year, the Fifth Grade educational experience will focus on developing and sharpening learning skills needed to satisfactorily meet grade level standards in academic studies or excel beyond grade level requirements.
Although there is much to learn in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science, this school year will include fun classroom activities with a few field trips planned to give each and every student a lifetime, memorable experience.
To achieve Fifth Grade educational goals, students will utilize hands-on technology to enhance their understanding and exploration of classroom studies.
Joel Garcia's Fifth Grade will introduce to ABC Unified School District its first "Open Source" based classroom computer lab, featuring "Edubuntu" a Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP). The computer lab is an ongoing work in progress using "free/no cost" internet software running on recycled computers.
Objectives:
The goals of this website are to provide a portal to online learning resources, research activities, and classroom learning materials.
Technical information for anyone interested in building a no cost online computer learning center in the classroom comparable to Mr. Garcia's Fifth Grade online learning lab may be accessed through the page tab above, "Our Linux Lab".
